Museum Next Door
Mural made during the Museum Next Door residency at Jeju Island, South Korea. MND’s Mural Project was created and initiated in collaboration with the local community and its elders. The village that MND belongs to is occupied by 9 residential households located in the government designated Jeoji Artists Village. While the elders have great pride in their village, they also want changes. Changes that would not only respect the unique atmosphere of an old Jeju village, but also give them a sense of belonging to the new identity provided by the government. The artwork was solely inspired by Korean elements such as the traditional dance Buchaechum (classical fan dance usually performed by female dancers), Eoyeo meori hair and rhino beetles found in the region of Jeju.
